Criteria for Successful Completion of Continuing Education: Learners must attend the entire event and complete the evaluation tool to earn 6.5 contact hours on Friday. Learners must attend the entire event and complete the evaluation tool to earn 7.5 contact hours on Saturday. Additionally, 1.0 contact hour will be offered as an optional session for poster presentations.

Session Descriptions:

From Novice to AI-Expert: Preserving the ‘Process’ of Professional Maturation | Tracy Riley, PhD, APRN-CNS, CNE

Developing professional identity in nursing is the sense of ‘thinking, acting, and feeling like a nurse’ (Godfrey & Young, 2020). But how is this identity impacted when our ‘thinking’ is supplemented by Artificial Intelligence (AI)? This session provides a rigorous opportunity to explore the use of AI through three distinct levels of engagement: Collaboration (AI as a cognitive co-pilot), Consulting (AI as a strategic architect), and Creating (AI as an automated ghostwriter).
Applying the Donabedian framework (Structure-Process-Outcome) and Benner’s Novice to Expert theory, we will identify where the ‘Ethical Compass’ of the nurse is most at risk. Dialogue during this presentation will address both scholarship and practice. With respect to scholarship, while Generative AI provides high-speed ‘Outcomes’ (manuscripts and syntheses), it fundamentally alters the Structure of scholarly inquiry and the Process of professional development. With respect to nursing practice, we define Structure as the accumulated foundation of our nursing knowledge, Process as the cognitive act of inquiry and synthesis, and Outcome as the achievement of expertise. Attendees will be challenged to audit their own AI use, ensuring that technological outcomes never come at the expense of authentic professional maturation, the development of clinical insight, and Evidence-Based Practice.

Ethics in Action: Workforce Strategy That Protects Nurses, Patients, and Systems | Kathy Kerstiens and Jody Clarke

In a rapidly changing healthcare environment, staffing decisions are no longer just operational – they are ethical. This session explores how workforce strategy directly impacts patient safety, nurse well-being, and the integrity of care delivery. Using real-world scenarios, we will connect the ANA Code of Ethics to practical staffing realities including safe staffing, workplace violence, onboarding and retention, and responsible use of contingent labor.
Attendees will leave with a simple, actionable framework for ethical workforce decision-making, a set of measurable staffing indicators that reflect nurse experience and patient risk, and practical approaches for nurse leaders to influence staffing governance. The session emphasizes transparency, nurse voice, and sustainable workforce models that reduce moral distress and support high-quality care.

Ethical Expectations Without Ethical Infrastructure: Mentorship, Neuroscience, and Moral Alignment in Nursing Systems | Jeanette Springs, MSN/MHI, MBA, BS, RN, NPD-BC

Healthcare organizations increasingly ask nurses to demonstrate ethical behavior, moral resilience, and professional integrity in environments marked by chronic stress, workforce instability, and competing system priorities. This session explores what happens when ethical expectations outpace the ethical infrastructure required to support ethical decision-making in practice.

This session explores how core nursing ethics and professional boundaries apply to social media use across all levels of nursing practice. Participants will discuss ethical responsibilities in online spaces, learn to recognize the difference between lighthearted content and higher-risk posts, and reflect on how social media use can impact professional credibility, career development, and public trust. Practical tools will be shared to help nurses engage online thoughtfully and ethically in today’s highly visible digital environment.

Magnifying the Voice of Nurses in Policy Decision-Making | Rachel Baker, PhD, RN, CRN-BC, FAAN & Erica Scarborough, MSN, RN

Nurses are the most respected professionals. However, we are underrepresented in elected office and often do not engage in political advocacy. One health system sought to educate nurses in advocacy for their profession, healthcare systems and access, and the health of their communities.

Innovation Workshop: Nursing Foresight Lab: It’s Time to Shape The Future | Oriana Beaudet, DNP, RN, FAAN; Olivia Lemberger, PhD, RN, NPD-BC; Arya Abdool

Nurse participants will learn about, practice and act on futures thinking around issues that are shaping the nursing profession so that they leave with the ability to analyze signals that are influencing the future and think about ways to strategically respond to the insight they gain. Nurses who participate in this workshop will become influencers and leaders who drive how their practice, teams, and organization anticipate and respond to the ever-changing healthcare landscape.
