ANA-Ohio Committee/Special Interest Group Information

Bylaws Committee

Connie Stopper, MEd, PhD, RN | Chair

Responsibilities Include:

  • Biennial review of ANA-Ohio Bylaws for consistency and congruence with ANA Bylaws
  • Review and incorporation of amendments proposed by the membership, committees or other groups within ANA-Ohio

Looking for detail-oriented individuals who are willing to work with others. No experience necessary.

Meets: Monthly October through April each year

 

Continuing Education Committee

Barb Brunt, MA, MN, RN, NE-BC, NPDA-BC | Chair

Responsibilities include:  

  • Guide the development, implementation, evaluation, and analysis of continuing education activities that support the professional development of members and other interested healthcare providers throughout the state of Ohio.
  • Provide nursing continuing professional development programs that meets national ANCC accreditation criteria to ANA-Ohio members and others; and
  • Contribute to the development of annual goals and outcome measures that support our dedication to nursing continuing professional development.

Meets: The 4th Tuesday of every month, August through May each year

 

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDI)

Shanell Murphy, MBA-HM, MSNLM, RN | Chair

Responsibilities include:

  • Be chaired by a member from within the committee.
  • Create and sustain Position Statements on racial, cultural and health disparities in nursing.
  • Review evidence of societal structures that lead to health disparities based on race, culture, and social determinants of health (SDOH).
  • Propose intentional actions to reduce/eliminate structural racism and discrimination and increase equity within the nursing profession.
  • Promote equity, diversity, inclusion within ANA-Ohio and
  • Assess EDI within the organizations (ANA-Ohio) structure and membership.

Looking for members to represent ANA-Ohio’s diverse community; are passionate about advancing equity, diversity, inclusion within the organization and the professional nursing community.

FAAN Special Interest Group (SIG)

Finance Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and recommend an annual budget to the Board
  • Advise and report to the Board on revenues (including non-dues revenue streams) and expenditures
  • Advise the Board on financial management and investment policies and strategies
  • Review tax filings and related documents
  • Monitor contracts

Looking for members with interest and experience in budgeting or overseeing an organization’s revenue and expenses.

Governance & Compliance Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure a smooth-running organization, and
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal rules and regulations relating to all aspects of the organization.

Specific projects:

  • Policy and Procedure Development
  • Compliance Plan Development and Monitoring

Seeking members from the northwest and southeast regions of Ohio to provide state-wide representation for ongoing organization development work as delegated by the ANA-Ohio Board of Directors.

Legacy Committee

Kay Ball, PhD, RN, CNOR, CMLSO, FAAN | Chair

Responsibilities include:

  • Create an ongoing timeline of ANA-Ohio history.
  • Develop archival processes to guide capturing and documenting ANA-Ohio organizational history, including photos and other memorabilia.
  • Establish a relationship with OSU Heritage Center (Friends of Nursing History Committee) for possible future donations.
  • Educate all groups within ANA-Ohio (committees and special interest groups) about identifying materials and activities within their groups that need preserving and storing.

Meets: Quarterly (usually on Wednesdays)

Nominating Committee

Responsibilities include:

The Nomination and Election Committee (NEC) of ANA-Ohio consists of seven members who are accountable to the membership. Elections occur annually, with three members elected in odd-numbered years and four members elected in even-numbered years. All members serve a two-year term or until their successors are elected, and the member receiving the highest number of votes becomes the chairperson in the second year of their term. The NEC is responsible for preparing a slate of candidates for the election of ANA-Ohio Officers, Directors, NEC members, and delegates to the ANA Membership Assembly, ensuring representation across geographic regions and nursing practice areas. The NEC also oversees the election process in accordance with policies and procedures set by the Board. To prevent conflicts of interest, individuals serving as officers or directors in other organizations that could conflict with ANA-Ohio’s mission cannot be included on the slate for elected positions. Additionally, NEC members cannot be nominated for ANA-Ohio Officer or Director positions unless they resign from the committee beforehand.

Outreach & Engagement Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruit and retain a membership that accurately reflects the diversity of Ohio nurses
  • Find ways to engage members so that they find value and belonging to ANA-Ohio

Professional Practice Committee

Kaitlyn Kolcun, DNP, APRN-CNS, AGCNS-BC, CNE | Chair

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a resource for advice and interpretation of national and state standards, code of ethics, practice acts, and subsequent laws regarding nursing practice 
  • Articulate matters concerning the changing needs of professional nursing practice 
  • Bring focus to the health, safety, and wellbeing of nurses in all practice settings
  • Collaborate within ANA-Ohio and external organizations on matters relevant to professional nursing practice 

Meets:

  • Monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month 4-5pm

 

Public Policy Committee

Janice Lanier, JD, RN | Chair

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor public policy issues that impact nursing in Ohio and nationally;
  • Monitor global health and policy trends; and
  • Keep members informed of such changes in order to support opportunities for advocacy.

Meets: First Monday of every month 12-1pm

 

Publication & Communications Committee

Yvonne Smith, PhD, APRN-CNS | Chair

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating communication to members through publications and social media.
  • Members have an opportunity to write and review articles for the ANA-Ohio News Journal and engage with others through ANA-Ohio social media accounts.
  • Members also monitor and make suggestions for changes to the ANA-Ohio website.

Meets: The full committee meets monthly (3rd Tuesday of the month); the social media and News Journal teams may have meetings outside the scheduled monthly meetings.
