Submission Guidelines “A Day in the Life” Articles
Do you want to share information about your role as a nurse and have an opportunity to get published? Consider submitting an article on “A Day in the Life of a __________________(specialty) Nurse.”
ANA-Ohio would like to feature nurses in all professional areas, including but not limited to, school nursing, home health, long term care, clinic nurse, nurse manager, staff nurses from the various specialties, administrator, educator (academic and clinical), researcher, float nurses, etc. Authoring an article titled “A Day in the Life of a ___________ Nurse” should provide an insightful and engaging look at the daily responsibilities and rewards of the profession. Here is a suggested outline with key elements to include:
Please address the following information as you write the article. The article should be written in paragraph format rather than a listing of responses to the bullet points.
Introduction - please include details about yourself such as:
- Facility where you are employed and area of specialty
- Any certifications you hold
- Length of time you have been a nurse
- Length of time in your current role
- Any special roles or committees within your organization
- Any involvement in professional organizations outside your organization
Body
- Describe the major responsibilities of your role
- How does this relate to the scope and standards for your specialty?
- If applicable, how has your involvement with ANA-Ohio and/or other professional organizations supported your role?
- Identify any resources you have found helpful in your role
Conclusion
- What drew you to this specialty? What excites you about this area of practice?
- What advice do you have for others going into your specialty?
Guidelines for writing (Articles should be between 250 and 500 words)
- Use APA format, double spacing all content.
- Citations and references should be in APA format and be included for specialty scope and standards, professional associations, resources, etc.
- Writing in first-person, using “I”, “me”, “my”, etc. is acceptable.
- Think of your major responsibilities and incorporate them into the article.
- Do not include any identifying patient or staff information in the article without the express permission of that individual (submit permission, if use).
- Submit the article through the submission portal on the ANA-Ohio website. Include a headshot when you submit.
